Imagine a world where stepping out the door means stepping into a society where you are not accepted. People look at you weird and whisper behind your back, while others choose violence over acceptance. Unfortunately, that is the world we live in today. 

   I personally believe that people should be allowed to love whoever they want no matter the gender or sexual orientation. If it’s not your body, you should not have an opinion, the only person allowed to comment is the owner of the body itself. It truly baffles me how people still take the time out of their day to make someone feel bad for simply being who they are. If they aren’t hurting anyone then why does it matter?

   I understand society has come a long way from its homophobic tendencies, but its not enough. People need to do better, and be better about understanding people’s sexual orientations so that we can create a safe environment for everyone. This would have already been achieved in a perfect world, but of course we don’t live in a perfect world. In our world people are still being brutally murdered over the fact that they are gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, or even asexual. 

   However, in the end I am glad to see that society is becoming more accepting. The LGBTQI community was created to loosely define a common culture and social movement. I also find pride marches very powerful and important because millions of people apart of the LGBTQI community come together for self-acceptance, achievements, and most definitely pride. It does break my heart to know that these people need to also fight for their rights, specifically same-sex marriage. I genuinly do not understand the problem with same-sex marriage, I think it should be an opportunity available to everyone and no one should be questioning it.

   To everyone reading, the one thing I want you to take away from this story is that people apart of the LGBTQI community are and should always be considered people too. It is not anyone’s place to dehumanize them and make them feel as though they do not belong, because they do. My hope is for the world to become more accepting in the future so that everyone can feel safe and proud of who they are.
