Creativity, artistry, and laughter fill the room whenever the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) come together. Last week, NAHS hosted its annual pumpkin painting event, designed to bring students closer and let their creativity run wild. With almost every chair filled, the paintbrushes went ahead and took control.
Senior and president of NAHS, Jocelyn Roldan, comments, “I feel like it just really shows who we are and how much people love to do simple little art pieces. With school overwhelming us, I think it’s easy to forget to do the little things that we enjoy. It’s very therapeutic.”
The variety of each pumpkin shows how far creativity can take you when it comes to art. From a completely transformed pumpkin into a cupcake to a cute “Chikawa Face” painted on the side, there are no rules or guidelines that need to be followed. It is the freedom of it all that makes it so enjoyable.
“At first, I had no clue what I was doing. I love the color green and decided to do a random design, but everyone around me said it looked like a watermelon, so that’s what I ended up doing,” states Freshman Nina Rios.
This lack of direction took a blank canvas, or pumpkin, and turned it into something vibrant, fun, and creative. More than just a project, it became a moment of laughter and connection that shows how art brings people together.
