Throughout my life, soccer has been a significant aspect of my life. I’ve found my place on the field—not as a forward chasing goals or a midfielder controlling the pace, but as a goalkeeper. I’ve learned that it’s a position that requires focus, strength, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations. The role has shaped me not only as an athlete but as a person.
Being the only goalkeeper on my team comes with a great deal of responsibility. In every game, my teammates rely on me to protect the net, and that trust motivates me to give my best. The pressure can be intense overall, as one mistake could cost the entire match.
Occasionally, soccer serves as an outlet when something is on my mind. However, when I step onto the field, everything disappears, and all that matters is the ball, my team, and the game unfolding before me.
Soccer has challenged me in ways I didn’t expect. In 2019, during a practice session, I injured my knee, which left it in a long-lasting, poor condition. To this day, I’m not sure what the exact condition is, but it was severe enough to sideline me for a while. As someone who was always active and dedicated to the sport, the injury was frustrating.
Sitting out, watching my teammates play, and not knowing how long it would take to recover, it was difficult. But the injury taught me patience and reminded me how much the sport meant to me.
Despite the challenges, I’ve never walked away from soccer. Soccer has given me strength in both easy and hard times, as it’s allowed me to connect with others and realize my capabilities. Sometimes, I wonder if pursuing soccer in my future is a possibility, but whether I choose that path, I still know it’ll always be a part of me.
Being the goalkeeper for my team has taught me that it’s more than just blocking shots; it’s about the pressure I face in the moment and learning from my mistakes. I’ve learned lessons through soccer, and that’s why, even with a busted knee, I keep showing up to each practice. I’ve found not just a game, but a genuine part of myself.
