One of America’s favorite pop artist is back. Taylor Swift has just recently announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on her boyfriend’s podcast, New Heights, starring Travis and Jason Kelce. One of their recent weekly episodes featured Swift as a special guest to announce what “Swifties,” Swift fans, call “TS12.”
With this exciting news, fans are speculating that the album will touch on her relationship with Kelce. Since they have been dating for over two years, fans expect to hear about the growth of their relationship and what the future holds for the couple.
As a Swiftie herself, Pembroke Pines Charter High School (PPCHS) sophomore Emily Bello Contreras comments on what she thinks this album could be about. “I think it’s going to show us a glimpse of her [Swift] and Travis’s relationship. I also think it will have a Midnights and Lover vibe.” Swift’s albums, Midnights and Lover, both portray pop, exploring love, heartbreak, and growth.
Swift isn’t known for keeping one topic throughout an album, so there could be other ideas shown on this record. There has been drama involving actress Blake Lively and her dwindling friendship with Swift. People are anticipating that she will speak about the situation in track one, “The Fate of Ophelia.” In the 2012 film Savages, Lively played the role of a girl named Ophelia, which could be what Swift is referring to. Swift also could be hinting at Shakespeare’s story, Hamlet, and its character Ophelia. The story results in a tragic storyline of Ophelia drowning, which could touch on to Lively’s downfall in the It Ends with Us lawsuit. This reportedly ended the friendship between Lively and Swift.
Senior Abigail Reynolds had a different viewpoint on what TS12 could be about. “It could be about how her life has been put in the media ever since she was a teenager and how it’s affected her.” Swift often speaks and sings about the struggles of being famous and the difference it makes in her everyday life. Thus, living under the spotlight could be a topic for Swift to describe to her fans, since it is such an important aspect of her life.
The Life of a Showgirl is set to release on Oct. 3, 2025, featuring 12 tracks. The visuals Swift released for the album are said to express a powerful, dominant pop vibe. With many ideas to take into consideration, there is a lot people can expect for this exciting release.
