Originally starring in famous television shows and movies, actress Sydney Sweeney has recently fronted a massive fashion campaign. In her latest project, the Emmy-nominated star from Euphoria and The White Lotus teamed up with American Eagle Outfitters for a fall ad campaign.
When Sweeney partnered up, “[It felt natural], [like] I’ve always loved American Eagle,” she said in a behind-the-scenes interview. She added, “Their clothes are so comfortable, but they still let you express your style. That’s important to me because I like mixing classic pieces with something unexpected.”
The recently debuted advertisement has become an internet sensation, featuring Sweeney in a series of autumn looks: cozy oversized sweaters, well-worn denim, and plaid flannels. The ad was shot in a sunlit outdoor market found in Los Angeles, highlighting her smiles, friends, and more.
The campaign’s warm and cozy aesthetic reflects American Eagle’s style while also capturing Sweeney in a more natural charm. Each scene in the ad is intentional, giving viewers the feeling of watching an ordinary day rather than a staged photo shoot.
Since then, Sweeney’s career has skyrocketed. She’s managed to balance acting, producing, and fashion work. Noah Mercado, a sophomore at Pembroke Pines Charter High School, says, “I remember watching her in a couple movies and thinking she was pretty—then I saw her in ads and questioned how she managed both.”
American Eagle’s team says they wanted someone who embodies both confidence and authenticity. “Sydney has this rare mix of approachability and star power,” a spokesperson shared, “When she wears our clothes, it feels relatable but still aspirational.”
From another perspective, the campaign allowed females to feel a sense of positivity with Sweeney’s portrayal as a “woman in control.” She strives to embrace her femininity without allowing others to undermine it in the fashion and entertainment industry.
However, Yogitha Adusumilli, a sophomore, states, “Sydney makes me want every single outfit [she wore]. The ad makes her [seem like] she’s a real human being.” For Sweeney, the best part of working on the campaign was how comfortable she felt. “It didn’t feel like a job,” she says, “It felt like hanging out with friends, just in great clothing.”
Although she’s not planning to leave acting behind anytime soon, Sweeney says she’s open to working more in fashion. She expresses, “It’s another way to tell a story.” She continues, “If I get to do that while wearing my favorite jeans, even better.”
