CHAT Farewell

Farewell to our Senior content editors!

The year of 2024-25 has been a ride for the CHAT staff as we have navigated the highs and the lows together. However, what has always grounded us and led us to success is our seniors. As graduation comes creeping up on us day by day, the CHAT staff bids farewell to our inspirational seniors: Alexia Rivera, Brielle Gari, and Dylan Williams.

Alexia Rivera: Editor-in-Chief. Rivera was not only a mentor but a friend to all. Her kindness along with her eagerness to push everyone to greatness, is what made her a great leader. She will be taking her talents to the next level at Florida International University.

Brielle Gari: Sports editor. To say that she revolutionized and made the sports section her own is just the start of what she brought to the CHAT. Gari inspired young writers to fully embrace their passion, no matter what stereotypes followed it. Her writing skills and passion will follow her all the way to Penn State University.

Dylan Williams: Social media editor. Every day without fail, Williams brought smiles and laughter to the newsroom. It not only stayed in that room, but extended to the entire campus as he went out to interview his peers during lunch hour. His kindness will be shared with his new peers at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.

On the other side of the CHAT Newspaper comes the talented editors of the Digital team. With their leadership and creativity to go above and beyond, the stories written by content were elevated with their talents. Thank you to Gabriela Martinez and Kian Gadishaw.

Pembroke Pines Charter High School's 25th Anniversary
The CHAT's 2024-2025 Accomplishments

This school year has been nothing but outstanding for the CHAT newspaper. Not only breaking records in the number of awards given but becoming represented both locally and on the state level. For the first time in Pines Charter history, Julianna Perez was selected as District 7 representative for the Florida Scholastic Press Association (FSPA).

History was not broken once, but twice with the CHAT newspaper receiving 3rd place best overall publication in the Sun Sentinel awards- standing out for its impressive online formatting.

But it doesn't end there, with 18 honorees, The CHAT Newspaper and Prowler Yearbook have been awarded the most ALL-FLORIDA awards -- 18 -- in our schools' history. The All-Florida award is the highest individual award from FSPA, the Florida Scholastic Press Association. Let's take a look at our winners:

With another of CHAT's many "firsts" this year, newly inducted Editor-In-Chief Julianna Perez and Janeyliz Baez will be attending prestigious journalism summer programs in Washington D.C. Along with another stellar program in the University of Florida (UF) which will be attended by Janeyliz Baez and Lizbeth Manoj this 2025 summer.

As these students prepare to bring their passion for journalism outside the newsroom, they are enthusiastic about the opportunities they have received through their work in the CHAT.

With an impressive end to the year, the CHAT newspaper continues to stand out in its community and at the FSPA conventions. It continues to be recognized for its outstanding stories and photography that tell a story and bring light to the journalism world. Way to go JAGS!

Goodbye to the 24-‘25 content editors, and hello to the 25-‘26 new staff!

The CHAT is going to take on yet another year of new and recurring editors to fulfill its purpose: creating impactful stories.

Leading the class is Julianna Perez, the Editor-in-Chief, and Janeyliz Baez, the Multimedia Editor-in-Chief. Along with them will be Eri Fatimilehin and Marlee Jaworski as the Co-Managing Editors.

Those who proved themselves exceptional to be in charge of a section were honored with one.

They have all allocated an immense amount of effort and time into showing how hard working they are and that they can offer a new perspective to their respective sections.
Congratulations to the new digital class editor staff for ‘25-‘26!

The other half of the newspaper cannot thrive without the digital class. Spearheading the class yet again are Evan Omana and Amaya Jorge as the Editor-in-Chief and Co-Managing Editor.

Justin Betancourt will stay as the Graphics Editor, and Krystal Castro as the Social Media Editor. To replace the past senior editors, there will be new, incoming seniors!

Omar Mohsen is now the Photo Editor and Nikhil Karri is the Video Editor. They have all worked extremely hard, pushing out digital content that appeals to readers and elevates the newspaper to the next level. Their dedication shows, allowing them to step up into their new roles for the next year!

With this, the CHAT says goodbye! We have more segments in mind, new story opportunities, and multi-media. Keep a lookout for more from the Jaguars.

Hi! My name is Julianna (Juli) and I am the Editor-in-Chief of the CHAT this year! This has been a dream of mine since freshman year so I am super excited to put my all into this year. As a writer for the CHAT for 4 years now, I cannot wait to see what new changes and stories will be brought to light this year. Marlee Jaworski, Co-Managing Editor

Hey friends!! I’m Marlee, and I am fortunate to be the CHAT’s second Co-Managing Editor for this school year! I am currently a senior, and it is my fourth year writing for the CHAT. Journalism has been one of my passions since middle school, and I am so glad I have been able to continue pursuing it throughout high school. The welcoming environment, new connections, and lasting memories are what I will cherish most about this class. Outside of the newsroom, I enjoy playing volleyball, catching sunsets, and seeing my loved ones.
