After four long years of high school, the class of 2025 can officially say goodbye to Pembroke Pines Charter High School, and open the doors of a new journey. Although this time can be exciting, it can also raise feelings of nostalgia to help soothe the unease of facing a new reality.
With music being a popular way for these seniors to seek comfort, many have been listening to certain songs in preparation for their big day. From “Ribs” by Lorde, to “The Spins” by Empire of the Sun and Mac Miller, these tunes will always hold a spot in the most commonly played songs during the graduation period. And for more students at charter, here are their top songs leading up to graduation:
“The [song] I’m listening to the most is definitely ‘Vienna’ by Billy Joel. I’ve always loved this song, but recently, it’s been resonating [with it] so much as graduation comes up… it’s scary to think that in the fall I’ll be in a brand new environment surrounded by people I don’t know, and I’m still expected to succeed as much as possible. ‘Vienna’ reminds me of the fact that it’s ok to feel overwhelmed and how everything works out eventually.” –Diedra Pabon
“One song I’ve been listening to a lot is ‘Wide Open Spaces’ by The Chicks. I’m definitely very sad to be leaving high school, but I’m also very excited for the future. I love sad goodbye songs but ‘Wide Open Spaces’ is really optimistic about moving out and growing up, and I think that’s what I need to hear right now.” –Sofia Peralta
“ [Lately], I have been listening to Fisher and Empire of the Sun! For songs, I have been playing: ‘World hold on,’ ‘Shiver,’ ‘We are the people,’ ‘You + me,’ ‘Atmosphere,’ and ‘Adventure of a lifetime.’” –Isabella Cioffi
“Since school is literally over, I feel like I have been listening to older songs because of nostalgia. I also know that everyone has been listening to ‘We Are The People.’” –Sophia Assiss
“I’ve been listening to ‘Slipping Through My Fingers’ by ABBA!” –Hannah Flores
