Through times of success, setbacks, and obstacles that made it easy to give up, Radre Chambers overcame everything that stood in his way. The offensive tackle from Pembroke Pines, Florida, Radre Chambers committed to play football at the NAIA level for Saint Thomas University (STU).
From a young age, Chambers knew he was an athlete. In 6th and 7th grade Chambers played basketball. Yet, he wanted to give another sport a chance. His freshman year of high school he decided to attempt to play a new sport and tried out for the school football team.
After making the team, he continued to play all four years in high school. However, there were many setbacks in his game, including a quadricep injury his junior year. It left Chambers in doubt of ever touching the field again. Yet, Chambers’ love for the game is the reason he never gave up.
Chambers made a long lasting impact on the field as a Jag, recording 58 total pancakes throughout his high school career. Shining the most his senior year, he recorded 41 of those during that time. He allowed only 3 sacks total, was named a Broward County All-Star, and was also named offensive lineman of the week twice.
Chambers received six offers in total, ranging from Division three to JUCO. However, STU was the one that stood out the most as he decided to commit to further pursue his athletic and academic career at STU on February 5th, 2025.
STU is a private university, located in Miami Gardens, FL. The school is known for its competitive spirit and commitment to character development. Chambers will be majoring in Finance, which creates many different opportunities for him in the future.
The football team maintained a record of 9-2 during the 2024 season, yet, Chambers looks to add on to this winning record during his first season. “I hope I can get on the field early and make a difference at St. Thomas,” Chambers explains.
Chambers describes STU as an “honest” program. The transparency made the school stand out most to Chambers and helped him make his decision to commit to play football there. “The reason why I chose St. Thomas over other schools was the fact that it made me feel at home.” Chambers says. With STU being in the area, it couldn’t have been an easier pick.
Now entering a new environment once again after high school, Chambers hopes that it can be similar to his freshman year of high school, since Charter made him feel comfortable and was his family.
The head coach of the Jags football program for all four years of Chambers high school career, Coach Keidran Willis, made a huge impact on Chambers football career. Not just as a mentor and coach, but also as a role model.
Pushing him in the weight room, physically, and mentally, Coach Willis made the possibility of playing football in college seem easier. “At the beginning I just wanted to play for high school… but he changed it all for me.” Chambers says. “I have something to look forward to after high school.” Coach Willis is considered as the influence that changed it all.
What stands out most about the game to Chambers’ is the atmosphere, the team, and the impact it can have on someone’s life. “I love football for what it’s brought me along these four years of high school,” Chambers says. “It’s been treating me well and I hope it continues that way.”
A devotion to this sport has impacted his journey and taught him many lessons along the way.
To persevere, stop at nothing, and continue with the sport that even with all the trials and tribulation, still wakes Chambers up everyday to go train and push his body to the limit.
A player that transformed the Jags football team’s offensive line, and a person that knows how to handle adversity is Radre Chambers in a nutshell. As he continues with his football career and competes at the next level, Chambers signed his letter of intent on April 16.
