One of the biggest nights for PPCHS seniors is coming up: prom. Behind graduation, prom is the last event seniors have before they start down their paths towards the future. As May 17th nears, seniors are getting excited to celebrate the end of their high school journey.
“I’m most excited to get all dressed up with my friends,” said senior Ariana Bonilla. “It’s like a really fun girls’ night I’ll never get to experience again.” Friends will get together to show off their dresses and get ready for prom as a group, adding some extra fun and maybe some sadness to the night.
“It makes me really emotional to think that this will be the last time I’ll have fun [as] a high school student,” Bonilla continued.
Though prom is a celebration, it can also bring on different emotions for graduates. “It feels so scary [going to prom], but at the end of the day, it’s good to have change,” says PPCHS senior Zoe Gill.
Since prom is one of the last senior events, some grads are feeling nostalgic about their four years of high school, but are looking forward to their bright futures. “I’m excited to make memories that I’ll… talk about for a while.”
Throughout the year, the Class of 2025 has hyped up the most exciting part of prom: the theme. A few months ago, senior student council members unveiled this year’s prom theme, Starry Night. In shimmering dresses and elegant suits, the senior class will dance and celebrate their high school achievements under a sky full of stars.
Though many seniors initially resented the theme for being “too boring”, the Class of 2025 seems to have opened their minds, from overused to classic and timeless.
“Personally, I think the theme is really cute. It’s like a classic theme, you can’t go wrong with it.” Popular doesn’t necessarily mean bad; maybe it’s a sign that Starry Night is well-loved for its versatility and beauty.
With graduation coming up, prom is one of the last opportunities this year’s seniors have to spend as a class and as a family. They’ve known each other as freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and now, as they go their separate ways and embark on their own journeys as adults, prom will be a night the Class of 2025 will never forget. The decoration stars won’t be the only shining lights in the room– the seniors shine even brighter.
