With seniors about to end the school year, it is time they look towards their future and discover what they want to do. Whether it is going to college, starting a business, going to the military, or becoming a firefighter. The future can be scary, but that is why we have people who are willing to help guide young people in hopes that they will do the same one day.
A lot of stations were at the event, which gave students opportunities to explore many different possibilities. “I was a little indecisive on what I wanted to do in the future,” said senior Jake Miller. “This helped me decide on what I wanted to do.” This was the purpose of this event: to ensure students have an idea of what they want to become. The Life Skills and Career Fair not only helps with encouraging and introducing different career paths for students, but it also helps students learn how to be financially responsible.
During a time when student debt is at its highest by far for college students, those who try to start their own businesses end up buried in debt. Some end up homeless because of debt struggles; this is why it is important to be financially responsible. “I learned that saving money is really important,” Miller said. “It influenced me to look into real estate and investing my money.” With rising prices everywhere, saving can also cause the value of your money to decrease. Investing is a way to keep the value of the dollar and ensure you are financially stable in the future.
The pursuit of a good career is also a priority for many seniors; they don’t want to have to choose income over passion. “I would want to become a physical therapist, then open up my own practice or clinic one day,” senior Joshua Poisson said. Creating a successful physical therapy business is highly achievable with the right plan in place.
Through the different stations showcasing careers such as firefighters or mechanics, 90 seniors learned and accepted that the future is near. It might seem scary, but that is exactly why the Life Skills and Career Fair is so beneficial to seniors. “It was such a pleasure connecting with these young stars of the future!” said Nathalie Delaine, a certified life coach who was at the event. Always remember this: take the initiative to be the leader of your own life; it is the only way you will fulfill your life’s dreams.
