The unruly deportation of Kilmar Ábrego García
During the month of March, a family was hit with devastation. A young man from El Salvador, Kilmar Ábrego García, was deported back to his home country from the U.S. under false pretenses.
It all started back in 2011 when García illegally immigrated to the United States, but was later arrested in 2019. However, an immigrant judge provided him with legal protection from deportation. This may seem rare, but this was due to the worry that García would face prosecution from local gangs if deported back to El Salvador.
After cries from his wife and young child, the government ruled that his deportation was an “administrative error.” Although this may be true, El Salavador’s President Bukele reveals he “doesn’t have the power to return him back to the United States.”
As of now, Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland has traveled to El Salvador in order to provide answers regarding García’s unruly deportation.
Trump’s tariffs cause worry regarding the future of the stock market:
In his second administration, Trump has taken a liking to the usage of tariffs in order to pay countries back for their offenses on the U.S. On April 2, Trump enacted tariffs on the European Union, a few countries in Latin America, and China.
White House officials said that “this is a way to impose specific reciprocal tariffs on roughly 60 of our worst offenders.” However, the US Federal Reserve Chair, Jerome Powell, sees this as a challenge for the bank and stock market.
The U.S. stock markets were already taken aback by the new trade restrictions on the chip designer Nvidia. With this, it could mean the potential rise of inflation in the market.
U.S. in talks with Iran over nuclear weapons
After President Donald Trump pulled out of the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal, the tensions between the two countries only grew. Now, with these meetings regarding nuclear weapons in Iran, it’ll be the first face-to-face meeting since the withdrawal.
With knowledge that Iran is constantly growing their Uranium, the Trump Administration is only attempting to negotiate with Iran to end this production. However, Iran assures the U.S. that their weapons would only be used to ensure peace. Recently, Iran has now confirmed that the next round of nuclear talks will take place in Rome.
“Hands Off” protests take place across the country
Since the official inauguration of President Trump, his administration’s actions have sparked rage and protests around the nation.
Hands Off demands an end to the billionaire power grab. Nearly 600,000 people have signed up for the events and arranged protests across the country to ensure voices are heard.
Not only are civilians enraged, but state representatives as well. For example, Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland has made multiple stands at these protests as she says “there is no future with a president who has the politics of Mussolini and the economics of Herbert Hoover.”
