Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is a mother, former actress, member of the British Royal family, and a cook these days. The moment she got into a relationship with Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, they had no end to hate and abuse.
Markle has been subjected to harassment because of a complaint saying that she’s a “complete narcissist,” according to her former royal staff, and has been deemed a woman who is “not fit” for the British Royal family. This disdain comes mainly from the British media. There are also numerous mixes of rumors that have never been debunked on the internet, and it’s worse on her part. Everything she does is scrutinized under a microscope and highly criticized.
Aired on Mar. 4th, 2025, Markle dropped her cooking series, With Love, Meghan, on Netflix. In this show, she shares her cooking tips, gardens, spends time with celebrities and friends, and shares her everyday life. She does it all in her modern, over-the-top home while trying to look normal.
Trying to look normal by not looking or being normal breeds hate everywhere. She is now better known on TikTok as “the actress-turned-princess-on-screen.” Many believe it is ridiculous that an individual who is far from being a cook was able to come up with a cooking show that doesn’t even feature the best recipes and content.
She cooks in an immaculate, upscale kitchen with no imperfections, and she uses and supports high-end and luxury products during her show, which are viewed as out of touch and unattainable to viewers. Her recipes did not sit well with the viewers who remade and watched her recipes. Her one-pasta made using cherry tomatoes and greens set a whole hate train on the internet.
It was not what she cooked that sparked this hate, but the unconventional way in which she cooked it. Markle received hate for using a similar quick pasta cooking hack that Martha Stewart used without receiving any detest.
This raises the question: Is Meghan Markle simply a woman whom everybody dislikes, no matter what she does?
The US and UK media depict her as a very aggressive woman who is a social climber due to her transition from being an actress to being the Duchess of Sussex.
Historically in the UK, Markle’s actions are said to be very “American,” which was not well received by the British public’s historic expectations of the Royals. As a British royal, it is expected to be involved in the family, but she did not want to do that. She moved to the United States instead, further fueling the fire of the UK’s negative public image of her.
While these facts may be accurate, the media blows things out of proportion and monitors Markle’s every move. Anything that Markle does gets criticized and overhated, quickly spreading throughout the internet and becoming a huge international scandal.
Markle had a poor reputation in the UK to begin with, which ultimately carried over to the US and became an international issue. Her creating a cooking show was seen as a simple way of earning money, and the perfect opportunity to be critical and negative. Disliking Markle is what the majority of people do. Try to watch With Love, Meghan, and decide if you do or don’t understand the hate that Meghan gets.
