Welcome back Jags! Thanks for tuning in to the first addition of the spring sports report! Let’s divide straight in.
Lady Jags upholding pride, excellence, and tradition
The Lady Jags softball team have started their season with a powerful start of 3-1. With dominating wins against Taravella, Chamindae-Madonna, and Cypress Bay, the Jaguars only allowed one run within those three matchups.
As the Lady Jags have had a three game sweep, they faced off against American Heritage, a rivalry game as the Jags beat the Patriots last season. Unfortunately the Lady Jags fell short in 12-0 defeat. Still early enough in the season, the Jaguars keep their heads high and prepare for the rest of the season ahead.
They are set to face off the Cooper City cowgirls @HOME Thursday, March 6th. Then another home game against Monarch on Friday, March 7th.
Restoring the program: Varsity Baseball
Starting their ‘25 spring season, the Jaguars started their season with five straight home games. Unfortunately, it ended in tough losses against Western, Chamindae-Madonna and Tarvella. These losses only created momentum for the baseball program as they had big wins against Monarch with a 14-0 final, Flanagan 7-2.
Last week, the varsity players started their BCAA campaign with three consecutive wins that lead to their first piece of hardware in the past four years. A strong win against the Nova Titans secured the championship.
Continuing a winning streak the Jaguars entered Cowboy territory Monday, March 3rd with the chance of a fourth straight victory. Senior Martin Pereira spent all seven innings on the mound with eight strikeouts and only allowed one run. One the plate, Junior Eric Molina who scored a run, went 3 for 4.
Facing the South Broward Bulldogs for the second time this season, the Jags held strong six innings with a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately the Bulldogs turned up in the seventh inning getting two runs scored. The Jaguars sit at a 5-4 record as they head to Doral Academy THIS Thursday, March 6th to end off this week.
Lady Jags chasing redemption
After a successful state run last season, the runner ups are ready to have their hands on the ultimate prize ; the state championship. The Lady Jags are currently holding a 3-1 record during the regular season.
They have been dominating wins against McAruthur, Fort Lauderdale, and Flanagan. Not letting any of those offenses score, the Lady Jags have been very successful on both sides of the ball. With an unfortunate loss against St. Thomas Aquinas, the final score of 26-6.
The Jags still continue as they face off Everglades Wednesday, March 12th @HOME.
Dominating the waters: Girls Water Polo
The Lady Jags have been flying through their regular season as their record currently sits at 7-2. Going on a straight five game winning streak, the Jaguars have had dominating wins against Nova, Fort Lauderdale, St. Andrews, Pompano Beach and Mater Lakes.
Holding up a strong fight, the Jags fell short against Cooper City and Westminster Academy. As the biggest tournament of the season approaches, Forza Stefano is the annual Pines Charter hosted tournament of the year.
Junior Captain Giada Porven has led the Lady Jags in goals with 41 goals this season.
Making a splash: Boys Water Polo
Starting their season campaign, the Jaguars have had a tough start to the season as they sit at 2-4. They now can confidently say they hold strong wins against Nova and Fort Lauderdale. The Jaguars continue to hunt for a successful season.
With tough defeats by Cooper City and Westminster Academy, the Jags look to bounce back with home field advantage as they host the annual Forza Stefano tournament. Senior Thiago Vitale has 27 saves this season and Sophomore Connor Geskus has 27 goals.
Running to victory: Track and Field
The track and field team is coming out the blocks hot with multiple PR’s (Personal Records) in all events. The most notable being Alejandro de Bastos who ran the 1600m in four minutes and ten seconds setting the school record and having the third fastest 1600m time in the nation. Another promising PR was set by Micheal Akinbehinje who ran the 400m in 49.23 seconds. There have also been memorable performances in events such as long jump, shot put, 100m, etc. This is shaping up to be a very promising season for the Jags.
