This year, a new club has emerged at PPCHS for students passionate about law. Jags for Justice, founded by juniors Robertzsa Joseph and Adriana Rodas, aims to provide students with direct access to resources and opportunities that will help them explore a future in the legal field.
Joseph and Rodas began the process of starting Jags for Justice at the end of last school year. As aspiring lawyers, they wanted to create a space where students could learn more about law in a way that is similar to how clubs like UTAP and HOSA provide opportunities for students in their specialized fields.
Starting this club however, was not an easy process for the juniors, in fact Joseph explained “we had to do a lot to prove to people that this club is unique and that it’s needed.” Initially, the founders promoted the club through word of mouth and SGA’s Club Fair event at the start of the school year. Now, they utilize their Instagram page as well as the morning announcements.
The club is now fully up and running, offering students a place to explore their interest in law without needing any prior experience. So far, Jags for Justice has hosted informational meetings and is planning more interactive events in the future. Junior Secretary Sophia Flores emphasized that the club wants to engage students in different ways, such as mock trials and games.
“Picking what you want to do for the rest of your life [this young] is hard, so we’re hoping to help lift that stress by introducing students to the field,” Flores said.
The club recently held a meeting featuring personal injury lawyer Cristina Sabbagh from Rosen Injury Law. With years of handling personal injury cases, Sabbagh shared her experiences in the legal field, giving students an inside look at what it means to be a lawyer. The event was well received, with students actively engaging and asking questions.
Jags for Justice has already made an impact on many students. As it continues to grow, its board hopes to provide even more opportunities for students to explore their passion for law.
