As the spring is approaching, the Pembroke Pines Charter High School Lady Jags Softball team is back on the field and ready to roar into the season.
After finishing last season with a record of 7-19, and reaching regional finals, the team is back for revenge this season. Especially since the softball program has hired a new Head Coach, Coach Gaddy Nuñez. This is followed by the addition of a junior varsity team as well.
After the new transition from assistant coach to now head coach, Gaddy Nuñez explains his main hopes and goals for the season, “my main goal this season is to improve the program overall, and have a winning average of about .500, which is winning more than we lose. Also, I want to encourage players to play the game the way that it is meant to be played, with goals of being ready for the playoffs and making it far.”
As five of the team’s starters from last season graduated, the underclassmen are having to step up and attempt to obtain the strength of last season, hopefully maybe even stronger this season.
For the third season in a row, the Lady Jags are hosting the South Florida Pre-Season Classic at their home field. With about 30 teams attending, the Lady Jags are ready for the competition.
Every time the Lady Jags step on the field, they abide by their program’s motto “Pride, Tradition, and Excellence.”
These three words are what makes up the program, as the Lady Jags secured three state championship rings, 15 regional final appearances, and 19 district champions.
With this, the 2025 season will be the seniors last opportunity representing Pines Charter. Following such high emotions, there is a high amount of pride and determination for this upcoming season.
Senior captain Yenisett Yescas explains, “As a senior, I want my softball season to be defined by leadership, growth, and relentless effort. I expect this season for all of us to leave our blood sweat and tears on the field. I think we have a chance to go far, due to the fact that we have certain goals for the season I know we will meet.”
The Lady Jags are scheduled to kick off their season with a home opener on Tuesday, February 18 against Cypress Bay High School.
With these goals in mind, and the blood sweat and tears left on the field, the Lady Jags are hoping to make this season a memorable one. Not just for the seniors, but for the legacy of the school and the program.
