The 59th Super Bowl takes place on Sunday February ninth, with the two straight title defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, versus the underdogs, the Philadelphia Eagles.
The two teams have previously met in the Super Bowl, where the Chiefs came out on top in a nail-biting, hard fought battle, winning 38-35.
Travis Kelce, the Chiefs’ tight end, is also the boyfriend of pop star Taylor Swift. Her attendance at games has brought significant attention to the NFL, though not always for the football itself, but for her celebrity status.
Some students have thoughts on this game, especially Sophomore Max Callegari, who explains that he thinks “the Chiefs are going to win, even though I do not want them to. They just have the best coach in the league, Andy Ried, and the best Quarterback in the league, Patrick Mahomes. The Eagles have a really good team, yet it will be hard to compete against the best Quarterback in the league.”
The Eagles have been to four Super Bowls, yet only won one out of the four. This season is different for the Eagles, they have a newer and more improved team since the last Super Bowl that they lost against the Chiefs in 2022.
The Eagles are led by their quarterback, Jaylen Hurts, and their historic, record breaking running back Saquon Barkley who has recorded more than 2,000 yards this season alone.
Additionally, Sophomore, Josiah Knight explains his personal thoughts on the game and how he thinks that “the eagles will win because they have a well rounded team this year.”
With there being new forms of betting, there is more pressure on the game than ever before. This is due to the fact that there is expected to be about $1.39 Billion set on betting for the Super Bowl this year. However, last year there was about a $1.25 Billion set on legal bets.
With all eyes on the field, and no team being promised the win, this game will be a tough battle between the Eagles and the Chiefs.
