Feb. 7th was the anticipated date for the annual Snowbowl dodgeball tournament that Charter students participated in with the goal of becoming the next champions. As students arrived in the gym, they quickly filled the bleachers where they would be spectating this showdown.
As the twelve registered teams started to assemble, they gathered in groups of six with matching shirts and roaring energy ready to be released onto the court. As each team got called to their starting points, teams lined up behind the white line preparing for the game that was about to begin.
For each game, the audience counted down to three and once the whistle blew, teams rushed to the dodgeballs and immediately began throwing them using utmost precision to aim the balls to the opposing team. As the winning team of each round kept making its way up the bracket, they continued to huddle and cheer as they got one step closer to the winning title.
After multiple rounds and an hour of dodgeballs being thrown back and forth, it was time for the final two teams to make their way to the center of the gym. The audience counted down one last time and on three, the final two teams quickly rushed to grab the dodgeballs. The spectators cheered and yelled, jumping out of their seats in anticipation of who would be the last team standing.
After a few minutes of ducking, running, and jumping from side to side to avoid getting hit by a ball, the senior team of the name ICE won the final battle. Rushing to join their teammates and friends on the sidelines, cheers bounced from the walls of the gymnasium and the winners were picked up and thrown upward in celebration of the win.
“Everybody was excited to be there, and the most enthusiastic part was participating in the games and watching the winning teams jump in excitement,” explains sophomore Karla Frontado.
Junior Snowbowl committee head, Camilla Portalatin, excitedly rushed to the winning team to give them a gift basket prepared with multiple snacks and goods. The 2nd place winners received medals in acknowledgement of their work toward victory. Gathering once more in the center of the gym, the champions posed vibrantly for a photograph with the basket on hand.
After careful planning by Charter’s SGA, the tournament was able to be executed for the enjoyment of the students, teachers, and administrators on campus. “The final outcome of this year’s Snowbowl was even better than we expected. The turnout was great! We had an amazing number of teams and a great audience,” Portalatin exclaims.
The 2025 Snowbowl Dodgeball tournament marks a new record of spectators and was successfully able to bring friendly competition and school spirit to the Jaguars here at Pines Charter. This showdown proves that with thrilling energy and dodgeballs on hand, teamwork goes a long way.
