Jaguar’s varsity soccer team has made history once again with two dominating wins against rivals Archbishop McCarthy. With these wins, both teams brought another district championship home to Pembroke Pines Charter.
The boys have had complete control of District 15 with their fifth consecutive district championship.
After beating the Mavericks 3-1 the boys are “excited, but handling with class” says junior defender Noah Lewis, and are ready to show their greatness again at the state level.
Junior midfielder Gabriel Calderon was named player of the match and led his team to a convincing win by “motivating the team and giving them the energy they needed”.
Goals contributed by Calderon and from senior defender Simon Samudio, and freshman forward Daniel Vidaurre helped secure the championship for the Jaguars. However, for the Lady Jags, the fight for a district championship was long and hard.
After falling short last year in the district final, and not having won the district championship since the 2022 season, the Lady Jags knew they needed this win “because it gives [them] the motivation to continue playing well in regionals” says sophomore forward Addison Palelis.
At the end of regular time, the score was 0-0 with an offsides goal for the Lady Jags right in the dying seconds of the game. Even when overtime came, yet again, the game remained scoreless.
All eyes were then on junior Madison Casanova, goalkeeper for the Lady Jags, as she went up to take the first penalty kick.
After a grueling anticipation, there was a feeling of being “relieved and more confident” says junior defender Amariah Ayum, after Casanova buried the first penalty kick.
After Casanova saved three penalty kicks against Mavericks, as well as made shots from captains and seniors Adriana Lopez (defender) and Isabella Mendez (midfielder), the Lady Jags had finally done it. The district championship was finally coming back to the home of the Jaguars.
The Jaguars have continued their fight for a state title, on Tuesday February 4th, for regional quarterfinals. The Lady Jags will be faced off against Varela with an 8-0 win, and the Jaguars will be played against Sebastian River winning 6-0.
Both teams are ready to continue their playoff runs and dominate at the state level this Friday, February 7th. The Lady Jags will face off against their rivals Archbishop McCarthy once again, and the Jaguars will be playing Jensen Beach.
