Bruno Mars is a famous singer, songwriter, and musician who has taken the world by storm with his pop music. From his famous hits like “Talking to the Moon” to “Die With a Smile,” he has taken a different route with his new track with Sexyy Red.
In Mars’s past collaborations, he has taken a pop route that’s soulful and old-school. His recent pop music collaborations with Rosé from BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga with “Die With a Smile” have been well received by fans worldwide.
These latest releases have won awards due to their popularity, performance, and overall vibe. “APT.” won Bruno Mars and Rosé the Global Sensation award in 2024. “Die With a Smile” won Mars and Lady Gaga a 2025 Grammy for “Best pop duo/group.”
The majority of Mars’s fans can’t say his new single with Sexyy Red, “Fat Juicy and Wet,” will win any awards. There are a lot of mixed opinions of this collaboration since Mars completely stepped outside of his comfort zone of easy-going, smooth songs to Sexyy’s rough, rap style.
A large amount of drama and confusion from many is circulating the internet right now about the new single.
Sophomore Eshal Farhatullah says, “To be honest, this song is not my favorite at all. I don’t like the beat or the lyrics. It’s different from his usual music.”
Fans are confused why Mars went this way, deviating from his pop-hit style. Although he does include sexual material in his regular songs, it is fairly moderate. But the lyrics of this song are perceived as straightforwardly explicit and highly crude.
Sophomore Sanjana Balla states, “What happened to old Bruno? I miss it! How do you go from “Die With a Smile” to that [his new single].”
“Fat Juicy and Wet” is largely seen as a downgrade from his previous Grammy-winning performance, “Die With a Smile.”
On the other hand, aside from the negativity this song is receiving, it’s some fans’ cup of tea. USA Today explains, “If you can get past the lyrics, the heavy-handed beat, and catchy background, [the] vocals make for an odd “Why do I love this?” listening experience.”
Overall, Mars’s new song was a surprising shock to many of his fans and might lead to more artists following in his footsteps. Try listening to this collaboration between Mars and Red, maybe it will also have you saying, “Why do I love this?”
