The Lady Jags Flag Football team is returning to the field this spring and are back for the ring. After ending with a historic season last year and losing in the state championship against Robinson High School with the score being 6-27, the Lady Jags are back and ready to get the state title.
Reaching for the state title, the Lady Jags are returning with most of their starting lineup. Yet, something about this year’s lineup is different; the school has hired a new coach, Maria Espindola. Taking a new approach to the game this season, the Lady Jags Flag Football team now has their first female head coach in school history.
Many players have goals and expectations for this season, such as Junior Madison Ojeda, with hopes and thoughts of being “back to back runner up for states, or state champs again, as well as beating the teams we lost to last year.”
Aiming to come back and better than ever this season, the girls are working to the best of their abilities.
Junior, Kaylah Josue explains that, however the team “lost key aspects to our team last year, we still have good returning players and new ones coming up.”
These players are expected to fill the shoes of the past players, and hopefully go even further than last season, ending the season with hardware.
The Lady Jags are scheduled to have their first game of the season, away at McArthur High School on Tuesday, February 18. The last time the Lady Jags played against them was in 2022, which ended in a Jaguar victory with a final score of 19-0.
Ready to take on whatever hurdles come their way, the Lady Jags are back on the field and on the hunt for the state ring.
