Becoming a Silver Knight nominee was the last idea Lucas Aronson had in mind, four years ago, as a Pembroke Pines Charter freshman. Out of six prestigious and hard-working students, Aronson is one of them and on the path to securing his title as 2025’s Silver Knight.
Aronson’s first two years of high school were steady as he wasn’t involved in a lot of what the school had to offer. “I didn’t think about being able to do anything on this scale,” he explains. It wasn’t until his junior year that he started applying himself in areas in addition to his challenging academics. “I started to focus on doing the things I enjoy with the aim to help others,” Aronson shares.
His choice to involve himself with the intention of putting the community first has led to his Silver Knight nomination for the Vocational Technical category or what Aronson describes as “specialized, practical, and hands-on work.” During his time in high school, one of his many projects was an idea he and his friend came up with to build a rotary device in order to help flood relief practices become more sustainable.
Eventually, they were given money from Broward County to bring this project to life. This later fueled a passion in Aronson for 3D printing and mechanics. “It’s really about being creative and taking chances,” he advises, “If you have that and time, the work will pay off.”
Aronson describes what it’s like to have this opportunity and be recognized as “rewarding.” “It feels good,” he says, “to be noticed for the hard work that I’ve put in.” As he waits for the announced 2025 Silver Knight, Lucas has his eyes on the prize. Thinking about his academic and college-focused future he believes “the provided scholarship would be a great way to continue funding for community projects and pursuing what I love to do.”
Having the opportunity to be a Silver Knight in his hands, would not have been possible alone. Aronson’s gratitude goes to his friend Santiago Delgado who is also a senior attending Charter and has “worked together with [him] throughout the entire process.” He also credits his mom for her constant support and Charter for extending this opportunity to him as he is “thankful for the chance to be nominated and potentially win this award.”
As Lucas has shown, his recognition as a Silver Knight candidate is beyond just having the grades or simply attending high school, but how his knowledge applies to the improvement of the community and putting others first.
