Channeling their inner-historian, students gathered in front of the River of Grass auditorium to partake in Rho Kappa’s first ever scavenger hunt. In search of the questions, participants raced all over the Pembroke Pines Charter campus in order to complete their tasks. After days of preparation, the event turned out to be a great success!
Taking inspiration from Mu Alpha Theta’s math scavenger hunt, Rho Kappa’s board members convened to discuss what the event would include. As the clubs first time hosting, each officer created and picked questions oriented to their current history courses. In the end, a total of 40 questions pertaining to social studies made up each of the 8 stations.
Senior and Co-president Karina Garcia shared the extensive planning process to be, “an unexpected and exciting one.” She revealed the specific intricacies that were needed for the event: “creating a map for the participants to follow, designating a payment section, and managing our volunteers.” By doing this, would all ensure that the event would run as smoothly as possible.
On the day of the event, the Rho Kappa committee all went in with high hopes. Sponsor Camille Tate anticipated that this event would provide “enrichment in terms of helping people retain information, because that’s what [students] usually struggle with most.” With exam season approaching in April, Rho Kappa created a fun and thrilling atmosphere to assist students in refreshing their social study skills.
Offering extra credit, volunteer opportunities, and providing treats for after, Rho Kappa was able to execute all their goals perfectly. Alongside Garcia, Co-president, senior Ayden Pardo expressed that “it is an enjoyable event for us all, especially the winners.” With 20 teams competing, the winning team was able to receive each a $30 Chick-fil-a gift card.
But it won’t end here as Rho Kappa plans on hosting more fun and engaging activities in the future. Camille Tate shares “we would like to do a history mystery dinner party, or a trivia style CLUE game.” Pardo also adds that “we will be hosting a history bowl sometime near President’s Day. It will be an awesome event with similar goals to the scavenger hunt.”
Striving to promote excellence, Rho Kappa works to educate students through social studies and to build productivity. With the scavenger hunt and many upcoming events, Rho Kappa is sure to make an impact in Charter history.
