On Tuesday Jan. 7, Pines Charter hosted their second HOSA bowl, a competitive trivia event organized by the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) club. The event tested students on school trivia, medicinal knowledge, and facts about the organization.
Teams of four players were assigned group numbers before facing off in head-to-head matchups. Each round started with individual face-offs, where players answered questions against their students from the opposing team. After two minutes, the game shifted into a speed round, where all team members could contribute to answering questions.
In the tournament-style competition, teams advanced through each round until the winning group, consisting of Evan Omana, Manuel Roz, Yasmin Dominguez, and Alexander Vermillion, claimed the prize. Each goodie bag included Chipotle and Jeremiah’s Italian Ice gift cards. While some teams took time to prepare by studying, others relied on quick thinking during the event.
HOSA organized the event not only to show school spirit but also to encourage participation in the club. It was open to everyone, including non-members, to give more students a chance to experience what HOSA has to offer.
Participating in the event, Junior Sneha Mathews can confirm “it was such a fun way to get involved and learn more about HOSA. Even though we didn’t win, I still learned something new.”
The HOSA Bowl not only allowed students to brush up on their medical knowledge, but it also put students in the competitive spirit ahead of their upcoming regional competition taking place next month.
