The Pembroke Pines community recently laced up their running shoes for the annual Forza Stefano Turkey Trot, raising awareness and supporting kids battling cancer. The event took place on Nov. 23 at the Pembroke Falls clubhouse.
Now in its ninth year, the annual Turkey Trot has become a meaningful tradition in the Pembroke Pines community, as each year sees more and more participants. The event is organized by the Forza Stefano Charitable Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping young cancer patients and their families by raising funds and awareness.
More than 50 participants of all ages took part in the 5K run, with families, friends, and even pets showing up to support the cause. Some runners aimed for their best time, while others walked alongside loved ones, enjoying the chilly weather.
After crossing the finish line, the community gathered for a well-deserved brunch followed by an award ceremony to wrap up the event. The fastest runners received medals to celebrate their achievements as everyone cheered for them.
Local businesses and volunteers helped ensure the event was ultimately a success, offering support through donations, setting up, and cheering for the runners. Students from PPCHS’s Forza Stefano Club also joined the effort, volunteering their time to keep the event running smoothly.
“It’s great to see our school dedicate their time and energy to such an important cause,” said junior Alessandra Moreno, who is the president of the Forza Stefano Club. “Every year, they show up with enthusiasm and their support makes a real difference.”
Members of the club worked behind the scenes to hand out water, direct the runners, and assist with the post-race brunch. Their involvement highlights Charter’s dedication to supporting the Forza Stefano mission and helping serve the community.
For PPCHS junior Ashlyn Shalet, volunteering at the Turkey Trot was a chance to give back to the community and make a meaningful impact. “It feels great to know that I’m supporting such a great cause and I’m helping kids and families who are going through such tough times,” she explained.
Overall, the support from the Pembroke Pines community helped make this year’s annual Turkey Trot a success. By raising funds and awareness, the Forza Stefano Foundation continues to support not only cancer patients, but the community as a whole.
