As the season of Fall faded, Winter is starting, which means that the Lady Jags basketball team is back on the court and gearing up for the season. With high hopes and energy, the team is ready to roar into the 2024-25 season.
After ending last season with a record of 10-10 and a district record of 1-3, the Lady Jags main goal when stepping back onto the court this season is making it to the playoffs. Last season, they ended their season with a loss to Nova High school during districts, with the score being 67-12.
Seeking revenge after last season, the Lady Jags are on the hunt for the district champion title. Sophomore Shooting Guard Jocelyn Perez expressed some of the team’s goals, as making playoffs was one of the goals.
“Our main focus is on getting better every day, building that team chemistry, and playing with intensity and heart every time we step on the court.” The intensity and heart for the game is what fuels the Lady Jags as they take on this upcoming season.
Junior Point Guard Madison Ojeda expresses “The team is getting better and better as each day goes on, and as the team builds and works together, we will achieve big things in the future.” As they have been working on the offensive and defensive sides of the court, they are improving every day.
Sophomore Guard Destiny Ortega believes that the team is “working to our fullest potential, I already see improvement after all of the work that we put in from conditioning to practice.” The team as a whole and the players are improving every day, aiming to strengthen their team enough to be able to take on districts this season.
The Lady Jags home opener on Tuesday, November 19, against Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, ended up in the first of many victories with a final score of 46-31. The Lady Jags are back and ready to roar into the season, determined to improve daily and secure a playoff berth after a hard-working offseason.
