As Thanksgiving approaches, students across campus are preparing for a much-needed break. Some students are flying across the country on adventurous getaways, while others enjoy the week from the comfort of their home. Every Pines Charter student has their own unique way of celebrating this year’s Thanksgiving break.
“I’m going to Maryland to spend time with my family. I’m excited because I rarely see my family since my only immediate family lives in Florida. I’m most excited for the Filipino delicacies that I am going to be having for Thanksgiving, since all my Filipino family lives there. The Palabok deviled eggs my aunt makes, and it never compares to anyone else’s; She makes it better than restaurants. I’m glad holidays like these get to bring me closer to my family.” –Sophomore, Elyssa Mitts
“Next Thursday I’m super excited to go to my mom’s house Thanksgiving morning and watch the parade with her. It’s a tradition we always have where we sit on the couch, drinking coffee, enjoying ourselves. Then as the day goes on, we usually start preparing all the favorite dishes of our family. The whole family comes down every year, 16 this year I believe. We make dishes like Mac N’ Cheese, stuffing, and my personal favorite, Mashed Potatoes. Then once everything is prepared and we’re all together we have a great meal while watching the Thanksgiving football games. It’s a great time, which is why I love Thanksgiving.” -English Teacher, Mrs. Carbone
“On thanksgiving week I’m going to be at universal studios for a few days because it’s been a family tradition since I was little. I’m going to be home for Thanksgiving Day so my family and I might go volunteer somewhere and have a nice family dinner. Growing up, I don’t really remember having a traditional Thanksgiving, I always went to Disney World or Universal, but I really like the quality time I have with my family.” -Freshman, Emma Bentacourt
“My plans for this week consist of trying to refine my culinary skills. I’m going to make steak, mashed potatoes, and macaroni for my family. I’m going to try to practice throughout the week because when I do go to college, I want to be able to make Thanksgiving-level meals for myself every once in a while. Nevertheless, if my cooking does not go to plan, there is always fast food such as Taco Bell which serves the same appetizing taste” –Senior, Haris Khan
“I actually have no idea what I’m doing for the entire Thanksgiving break, but some of my friends will probably come over to my house. For Thanksgiving Day, however, my family always celebrates together. I’m super excited to eat sweet potato casserole. Especially with the way my mom makes it. It’s so good and it makes for a memorable Thanksgiving every year.” –Freshman, Juana Hoyos
“My plan for Thanksgiving this year is really exciting. Almost every year my birthday lands on or is near Thanksgiving Day so it’s kind of like a 2 in 1. This year, however, I am excited as I invited some of my friends to a brunch at Little Hens in Weston. It is definitely one of the best spots in the area and I’m so glad to be able to share the meal and conversation with my friends. After brunch, my friends and I are going to go watch Wicked in theaters, then we will finish off the day with cake. I’m super excited for this break!’- Sophomore, Isa Caraballo
“My plan for Thanksgiving break is to decorate for Christmas. I’m going to have a huge Christmas-themed party at my house on the actual day because Christmas is my family’s favorite holiday, we choose to celebrate it twice. It really is the best environment and the best way to spend Thanksgiving.” Senior, Carmine Young
“I’m going to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. In Puerto Rico, I’ll be visiting family which I haven’t seen in a while and in the Dominican Republic my dad and I are going to hang out with his friends.” Sophomore, Leo Vazquez
