After a suspenseful ending to season three, fans have been anxiously waiting for the beloved show Outer Banks’ fourth season to come out. The season ended with the Pogues (JJ Maybank, Kiara “Kie” Carrera, Sarah Cameron, Pope Heyward, John B Rutledge, and Cleo) finding not only the lost city of El Dorado but also the treasure that went along with it. After returning home, the Pogues were brought to another treasure hunt involving Black Beard. With this being the main storyline for the new season, fans were ready to dive into part one on Oct. 10th and Nov. 7th for part two.
Part one:
The Pogues started the season on a high note after being rewarded $1.1 million for the gold they found in El Dorado. Excited, the Pogues built a new shack and their own business; Maybank made his own chartered boat company. The teens wanted to make “Poguelandia 2.0,” their slice of paradise aside from the treasure hunting. “I loved the moments when the Pogues were plotting to maintain their business in the first couple of episodes before the zoning issues. It just felt so classic for the group,” comments sophomore Chloe Shuch.
Soon after, the Pogues faced issues with their new property since Maybank lost a bet at the beach race, making them lose all their money. Weeks after, they got an offer to help with Black’s treasure. The Pogues took on the offer and met with Wes Genrette, who told them to find an amulet that would break his family’s curse. Maybank and Carrera dived to retrieve the prize possession underwater but ran into mercenaries who were also looking for the artifact. Once they had the amulet, the Pogues discovered that there was a bigger treasure to go after: the Blue Crown.
The new characters Chandler Groff and Hollis Robinson try to negotiate a deal with Rafe Cameron to buy Goat Island and build real estate. Senior Hannah Flores feels that “the suspense and different twists throughout keep the plot really entertaining.” Episode five ended with Sarah Cameron and Pope Heyward stuck below a church and Maybank finds out his father Luke Maybank is not his real father—Groff is.
Part two:
A few weeks later, the Pogues were back on screen, still trying to solve all their mysteries. Episode six continued with the Maybank family history and the Pogues’ zoning hearing at the Town Council. The hearing created chaos after Luke Maybank revealed he invalidated the property sale before the auction. This led to JJ destroying the downtown area and going on a destructive path.
Later, JJ and Groff team up to find the lens needed for the map of the Blue Crown. While that is happening, fans were shocked “when Sarah found out she was pregnant and later told John B,” junior Michelle Diaz reveals. She further explains that “it was honestly out of nowhere that they just decided to add that scene into the show, which changed everything [for] the rest of the season.”
Tension was building towards the last two episodes as the Pogues made it to their destination: Morocco. To their surprise, Rafe Cameron helped the Pogues by providing them with a boat that would help them get there.
Once they reached Morocco, they decided to get the Blue Crown and capture Groff so they could hold him accountable in OBX. Unbeknownst to them, the Pogues had to face the mercenaries again in Morocco, who were also racing for the map Groff had and the crown. Although there was violence, the Pogues were able to secure the crown. The ending to the season was what startled the fans most: “Groff stabbed JJ, his own son,” Shuch exclaims.
The Netflix show has been getting more action-packed with each season, and the fans will have to wait to see what awaits them in the fifth and final season.
