Pines Charter Swim had just recently ended their season undefeated, dominating all of their dual meets. They were against Taravella, Cardinal Gibbons, Nova, South Plantation, and West Broward.
Although they weren’t able to get in as many meets as usual due to various issues, they were still able to make the most of their season with 4 dual meets and BCAA’s.
Their last meet of the season against West Broward was also Pines Charters Senior Night. Not only did they triumph West Broward, but they also had fun afterwards watching or being a senior racing their parents.
Freshman swimmer Kierstyn Jorgensen says, “It was so exciting and funny watching the swimmers put on onesies to slow themselves down while racing against their parents. They were all struggling!”
With the Pines Charter Swim team’s season at an end, with lots of success and many wins, varsity swimmers move onto their next chapter to the postseason. Senior Captains Lorelei Santos and Abraham Penaloza, alongside Coach Jessica Rodriguez, will continue to lead the jags into a championship season.
On Friday, October 25th, in North Miami, at Neptune Aquatics districts, class 3A had begun. The first event was the 200 medley relay, which went well for both the girls and the boys.
After the first relays of the meet, individuals had commenced, and swimmers were lining up to race. There were two relays left, the 200 freestyle relay in the middle of the meet and the last event being the 400 freestyle relay. After all the events were complete the awards were announced. The girls had placed 2nd, and the boys placed 4th.
The automatic qualifiers for Regionals from Districts who got top 2 in their events were Junior Giada Porven and Senior Abraham Penaloza; the rest of the swimmers were waiting for results to see who else qualified for Regionals.
After successful districts, the results for the regional qualifiers were released. Twenty-one swimmers, along with a couple alternates, are scheduled to swim for regionals. Regionals will be in the morning of November 2nd in Stuart at Sailfish Splash, and swimmers will leave the morning of November 1st.
Captain Lorelei Santos says “ I can’t wait to swim at regionals! This group of kids have taught me so much about the sport I love. I’ve seen so much growth from the start of the season until now, and I can’t wait to see how we do at regionals and the seasons to come!”
Heading into the regionals, the Jaguars have decided to continue on the celebration for breast cancer awareness by wearing pink cowboy hats.
Soon after, our Jags headed to states. Lorelei Santos, Antonia Ortiz, Giada Porven, and Daniella Brancatti all qualified for the 400 Freestyle Relay.
