Over the course of this week, some strange things have been occurring in Mrs. Ramos’ Anatomy Honors classes. Jags would enter the classroom looking normal and exit as if they encountered a zombie apocalypse. Teachers and administrators grew worried, wondering what could have happened to the students.
However, many were quick to realize that these “wounds” weren’t as they seemed. They were fake injuries using the magic of SFX. Some students used ordinary materials such as tissues, paper towels, and Vaseline, while a handful brought in more advanced equipment such as fake blood, scar wax, and liquid latex. Together as a class, everyone brought together their varying materials to create unique, terrifying masterpieces.
In a rush, Mrs. Ramos emailed the PPCHS staff, and they discovered everyone was completely unharmed. The students, who just started their skeletal unit in anatomy, were assigned a project in which they had to create gory masterpieces on their bodies, ranging from bruises to scratches and even stab wounds. As it comes to a close, one could wonder, how do students at Charter feel about this unusual task?
“The wound recreation in anatomy yesterday was super fun and a cool activity to participate in. I used materials that I’ve never used before, like liquid latex which smell[ed] disgusting, by the way, and fake blood. All of the wounds turned out pretty realistic and it was such a creative and entertaining process. Definitely something I’d like to do again!” -Mayleen Wu, Senior
“It was so much fun; I really liked creating the wound and seeing people’s reactions to it!” -Kaylee Suyama, Junior
“I thought it was so much fun and honestly a really creative way to learn about the different parts of a wound. Like the different colors of a bruise or just the general look of a wound.” -Amina Stark, Junior
“The anatomy project was a lot of fun! It gave us a new perspective on anything bloody or gory in movies—super cool insight!” -Kimberly Lopez, Junior
“Making fake wounds felt like a challenging project for everyone due to us having to build something entirely from creativity and our own personal knowledge, but it was interesting seeing what everyone came up with. I had a great time and am probably going to do it on my own at home from now on if I get bored.” -Paola Reverol, Senior
