The spookiest day of the year has arrived once again. From movie marathons to trick-or-treating, there’s always a way to celebrate!
Spooky movie marathons
A popular Halloween tradition among many students is none other than the classic scary movie marathon. From old-school horror to modern psychological thrillers, students enjoy revisiting iconic scary movies once October rolls around.
The excitement lies in the suspense, jump scares, and even the comedy often found in these films. The Shining, Scream, and Insidious are a few of Charter’s favorites this spooky season. “My favorite scary movie is Scream, because of the suspense. I love rewatching it every year,” says PPCHS sophomore Samantha Lafleur.
Trick-or-treating
Even though trick-or-treating is often considered an activity for younger kids, many high schoolers at PPCHS still find themselves drawn to this Halloween tradition. There’s a timeless feeling about dressing up, going door to door, and collecting candy that brings out a sense of nostalgia and joy for many students. For some, it’s a chance to relive childhood memories, while for others, it’s simply about getting into the Halloween spirit with friends and family.
“I love taking my cousins trick or treating, and it makes me feel so nostalgic,” says junior Alessandra Moreno. “I used to always go with my friends, and I’m glad I still get to go.”
Putting up decorations
Another beloved tradition is decorating homes, bedrooms, and even cars with Halloween-themed decorations. From fake cobwebs and skeletons to carved pumpkins and creepy lighting, many students enjoy putting up decorations to celebrate the spooky season.
Some students even take this a step further by decorating their front yards and creating mini-haunted house scenes and displays. The process of planning, setting up, and adding finishing touches adds a sense of excitement that builds throughout October, making Halloween feel like an extended celebration.
Dressing up in costume
Of course, Halloween wouldn’t feel complete without dressing up in creative costumes. Whether they’re reimagining favorite characters, designing spooky looks, or coming up with clever concept costumes, students at Charter love the creative freedom Halloween brings.
Some prefer traditional scary costumes, such as zombies and monsters, while others love to embrace the classics. “My friend and I are dressing up as Linguini and Remy from Ratatouille,” says PPCHS junior Kaitlyn Oramas.
As the spooky season passes through, there are endless ways that Halloween can be celebrated!
