As the school year is in full swing, new and returning clubs are back at Charter. These clubs not only hope to leave an impact on the world, but they also want to spread awareness for their causes and create a safe community that all students would enjoy. This year, three new clubs at Charter have really opened up to provide students with a wider variety of after-school extracurriculars. Meet the rebound clubs: Bowling, Dungeons and Dragons, and Costa Rica Aid Alliance.
Dungeons and Dragons Club (DND):
After stopping for a year, the DND club officially runs again at PPCHS. The DND club was created so students could learn how to play the ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ video game and form meaningful connections with other students. Senior and Co-President of the club, Zach Lowers, explains, “We hold our meetings to explain the game and its quirks, and we hope to be soon able to get everybody started on their adventures within their games. We hope to be able to have our dungeon masters host portions of their games within the club itself.”
Bowling Club:
The Bowling Club was created solely for two things: competitiveness and also to help amplify the sport of bowling. Mr. Holland, the bowling club sponsor, reveals that “[Many] Broward schools have bowling teams, so we want to compete.” He further adds, “We do practices twice a week, Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday is a competitive day to play against each other for awards.” The ultimate goals that this club hopes to execute are to engage more with other schools and hopefully win multiple achievements from their various competitions.
Costa Rica Aid Alliance Club (CRAA):
The CRAA club’s primary goal is to raise awareness on poverty and its effects on children in underprivileged schools. They are striving to raise over $5,000, which will be donated to a school in Costa Rica. The club plans to host multiple events such as fundraisers, donations, and more to help them raise money and reach their goals. Senior and Co-President, Kayla Carrasco expresses, “Not only do you get the opportunity to be part of the club, but you can also join us on our trip during spring break for more volunteer work with the kids. We can’t wait to see how many members we get this year!”
As these three clubs will continue to thrive on and off school grounds, they all aim to grab students’ attention through the creativity within their respective societies. They’re essentially providing PPCHS students with an abundance of opportunities in different environments and multiple extraordinary events.
