Once the harvest season approaches, many people have fall traditions that are a must-do every year. Other than trick-or-treating, when people hear Halloween, most will think of iconic movie villains such as Micheal Myers or Chucky. Classic characters like these are what truly bring the eeriness and suspense that Halloween is known for. Although horror films may not be for everyone, here are Charter’s top Halloween movies that are a must-watch before October 31st:
“My favorite character in my favorite Halloween movie is Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas because he is the pumpkin king of the Halloween town and he brings a very spooky vibe.” – Soniya Nelson, Freshman
“My favorite Halloween movie is Coraline because it adds the perfect spooky vibe to Halloween and the mother adds a scary element because she is very unsettling. I also like the idea behind the movie because it isn’t something I have seen before with Coraline’s button eyes.” – Emma Mendez, Freshman
“I love Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street because they have a song for him that is played in the beginning of the movie to introduce him. It is just an original, and it was like the best 80s slasher.” – Rylen Abreu, Freshman
“To start, my favorite Halloween movie is Scream. I’m a huge fan of the whole franchise, but the first is the best. My favorite scene is when the main character, Sydney, finds out her boyfriend, Billy, was one of the ghost-face killers. It’s an extremely iconic and jaw-dropping scene that will 100% send chills down your spine.” – Madison Maylor, Sophomore
“I think one of my favorites has to be Annie Wilkes from Misery (1990). I think the actor [Kathy Bates] did such a good job at making her so suspenseful, and not in the scary way, but more in the psychological aspects. You don’t know what is going to come next, and it feels like there is so much going on with her character. It’s such a terrifyingly good performance.” – Ayana Russell Hilton, Junior
“I love Halloween movies because they are something that makes you feel a certain type of way that regular movies don’t. They are funny and some of them are actually scary and it’s cool because there’s such a wide range of movies and you don’t know what to expect. I’m mostly excited when I watch them and sometimes I get really creeped out or scared.” – Xavier Reid Morgan, Junior
“My favorite Halloween movie is Addams Family (1991) because the movie is so classic and fun to watch. The way they act is so different from how we do, but it’s funny and refreshing. My favorite character is Wednesday because she is only a kid yet has a twisted sense of humor.” – Victoria Regueiro, Junior
