Vice President Kamala Harris has brought her campaign to a place many Democrats have long considered enemy territory — Fox News. The Democratic presidential nominee sat for her toughest interview yet on Wednesday, where she was hit with questions from Fox News’ Bret Baier.
During the interview, Harris criticized former President Donald Trump as being a “threat to U.S democracy,” bringing up his threats to use military force to go after his political opponents. “It is clear to me [that Trump is] unfit to serve, he is unstable, and he is dangerous,” she claimed.
Harris also took the opportunity to define major differences that the American people would see between her and President Joe Biden’s administration. She specifically brought up her plans to offer increased housing assistance to first-time home buyers and provide funds to start small businesses.
Although Harris had some successful moments Wednesday night, Baier repeatedly pressed her on many topics, including illegal immigration and taxpayer support for gender-transition surgery — areas that closely align with Trump’s regular attacks against her. As one of the last remaining “hard news” correspondents at Fox News, Baier has a reputation as a well-prepared interviewer who doesn’t let politicians get away with filibustering.
Trump has refused to participate in another debate with Harris — even on Fox News. For now, this interview will have to suffice.
