As the alarm clocks of the many PPCHS seniors began buzzing bright and early at 5:00 in the morning, it symbolized a new chapter in their lives. This was the beginning of their Senior year, and what better way to kick it off than with the traditional event known as Senior Sunrise? As cars began promptly flooding the student parking lot by 6 A.M., students were preparing their creative ideas and artistic skills for the morning ahead. Colorful assortments of blankets and towels decorated the ground of the football field, as students gazed upon the dancing colors in the sky.
Senior Sunrise is an exciting tradition for PPCHS seniors, where students wake up bright early each year, just in time for the sunrise. They are then presented with an assortment of snacks from donuts to croissants, donated by parents, teachers, and students, to help commemorate this special day. After seniors collect their snacks, those who purchased a parking spot have the opportunity to personalize their parking bumper, in any way that they desire. Many students will take this task to the next level, bringing a variety of paints, and stencils to help accessorize their once blank canvas. In just 6 hours, a once blank parking lot becomes embellished with the creative visions of all the students at PPCHS.
Under the heat of the blazing sun, all of the students started to work. The student parking lot is buzzing with activity, all of the students are traveling around the entirety of the parking lot, gathering inspiration from their peers, and trading supplies with their fellow painters. Senior Ashley Hoadley happily expressed, “I painted my spot for 5 hours. I made sure to get every detail. I absolutely loved it as SZA is my favorite artist.” Even students who didn’t have parking spots wanted to celebrate the Class of 2025’s first event as seniors. “It was a lot of fun, I was able to help my friends paint their parking spots, and it was like the first time that we were able to be seniors!” explained senior Zaria Diallo. Ironically enough, many seniors from previous years even joined in on the activities to help their friends.
After a long day of sketching and painting, the sun began to descend and many seniors began to pack up all of their belongings. Every one of them left confidently knowing they left behind their lasting mark at Charter!
