In preparation for the new 2024-2025 school year, the Student Government Association prepared to enter the PPCHS campus a week prior to the beginning of classes. Waking up in the early morning and working throughout the day, the SGA class came together in room D210 this 8/5-8/9 week to help assist teachers and decorate the campus to ensure a spirit-filled environment.
SGA has chosen their annual theme and this year they are found in wooden cabins as camp counselors. Working closely with administration and their new sponsor, Ms. Altimore, SGA hopes to work together to create another year that encourages PPCHS students to become involved in the many exciting events that are being planned. Senior SGA President, Jaelyn Perez explains, “This SGA tradition helps better our leadership skills while also bringing the class together. Students are able to gain the necessary teamwork abilities as well as independence.”
Starting fresh on Monday morning, SGA members were split into their committee groups that consisted of closet clean up, classroom help, banner making, and class decorations. As they split into their teams, they diligently started brainstorming ideas to represent this year’s camp theme. From choosing a variety of artistic tools and sketching the most fitting designs, each member got straight to work.
Moving along to the U-building, the closet committee made their way to the SGA closet that contains all the necessities that might be needed for any of SGA’s events throughout the school year. Grabbing boxes filled with all the decorations, along with a variety of supplies, they carefully cleaned the shelves and neatly placed everything back to its designated and labeled spot. This ensuring that everything will be ready to be used for any new events in the making.
The SGA students in charge of making the SENIOR, JUNIOR, SOPHOMORE, and FRESHMEN banners picked the sparkliest glitter and wrote in detailed calligraphy to create the vibrant and attractive banners that would be placed in the hallways. A way to greet all four of the high school classes that will join PPCHS this school year. As the following days passed, the SGA class continued to create their unique decorations and banners along with assisting a number of teachers around campus.
On Thursday, SGA had the opportunity to assist in the Senior Sunrise in hopes of creating a memorable experience for the class of 2025. Arriving at school at 5:45 in the morning, members gathered together in senior square to prepare the food and services they would offer the seniors after they watched the sun rise. Friday, the last day of pre-week, consisted of finishing the final touches for the campus to be fully prepared to receive the hundreds of students who would be coming back from summer break.
After a week of seeing each other all five days of the week, SGA members had the opportunity to talk to each other, work as a team, and go out on lunch breaks as a class to further strengthen the relationships between all those who were involved. Senior SGA Vice-President Chloe Correa exclaims, “Pre-week really helped with class bonding. Being able to see everyone for a week before school allowed everyone to form new friendships within the class. Forming these bonds really helps when it comes to creating these fun events for the student body. It exceeded my expectations, we got everything done and the banners looked extra good this year!”
English teacher and senior class sponsor, Ms. Altimore, has welcomingly made the decision to additionally sponsor this leadership class. After spending a week with her new students, she enthusiastically exclaims, “I was totally blown away by pre-week! I was amazed with how many students came in, how gracious they were in helping teachers, and how available they were to bond with each other and get things done to create a welcoming classroom and environment.”
After this successful pre-week, camp SGA will continue to work together this 2024-2025 school year in order to continue promoting school spirit and use their leadership techniques to have another accomplishing year for the PPCHS jaguars!
