As school ends, the time to do what you have been wanting to do has come. Some prefer to go out with friends or binge watch shows, while others enjoy settling down on a chair and reading all the books that they have been waiting to read. Reading has many genres which is an exciting thing for others who may not know where to start. If that’s the case, here are some of my top book recommendations for readers and non-readers:
We Were Liars
We Were Liars is about a wealthy family that travels to a private island every summer. The book is through the eyes of Cadence Eastman, the main female character, and her experiences throughout her life during summer on the private island. However, during one summer, Cadence suffered an accident that left her with life-changing headaches that would forever affect her. This book is filled with surprises, romance, thrillers, and a surprise ending. The book may be slow at first, but the more you read it, the more you can’t stop.
The Inheritance Games
The Inheritance Games is about a young girl that mysteriously gets the inheritance of a wealthy, elderly man. His family, who is shocked that the heir didn’t get his inheritance, tries to figure out why the young girl–Avery Grambs–got the money instead. With this being the first book in a three-part trilogy, people who are in the Hunger Games and puzzle-solving mood are in for an enticing read. This book has a love triangle that constantly leaves readers guessing on which brother she will end up with—or maybe someone else.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder
Don’t be fooled by the name. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is about Pippa Fitz-Amobi picking a local murder case to solve for her high school end-of-year project. As she dives deeper into this unsolved case, secrets start to spill out, but someone doesn’t want them to be spilled. This book leaves readers gripping the book and wanting to know more before it’s too late. The book doesn’t only stop there: A Good girl’s Guide to Murder is a trilogy.
Verity
Verity is about an author named Verity who gets into an accident and cannot finish writing her books. Her husband hires another author, Lowen Ashleigh, to complete her series. However, holes start to appear as Ashleigh is invited to stay at Verity’s house, which is also where three of Verity’s children died. Verity is a phycological thriller that starts off spooky on the first page and ends off leaving you gob smacked on the last.
I’m Glad My Mom Died
Written by Nickelodeon actress Jennette McCurdy, I’m Glad My Mom Died follows McCurdy’s life from childhood to adulthood as she dealt with the abuse from her mother (hence the name). This book pulls on the heartstrings and is a great read but even better audiobook.
While everyone has their own respective genres that they prefer to read, trying out a new book, or genre, can bring in a new imagination.
