Hozier’s Unreal Unearth tour made its mark this past weekend in Florida’s Palm Beach Amphitheatre. With the astonishing stage setup, incredible band, and Hozier’s amazing vocals, the concert was one to remember.
The stage setup was beautiful: music videos were playing in the background, whimsical trees “grew” from the ceiling, and amusing visuals painted the theatre.
To open the concert, Hozier had Allison Russel, an upcoming singer. I enjoyed her songs as they all held great meaning, however, I struggled to sit still while waiting for Hozier to make an appearance.
Despite having high expectations, nothing could have prepared me for just how phenomenal Hozier was. He opened the concert with “De Shelby (Part 1)” and ended the show with “Work Song.” I was surprised by his vocals, as he sounded identical, if not better, than the recorded songs themselves.
Following the first song of the night, Hozier performed “De Selby (Part 2),” which is one of my favorite songs from his album. To me, what is most striking about “De Selby (Part 2),” is the beat: it gives off a powerful aura. As the concert progressed, Hozier played a few of his most popular tunes from his newest album such as, “Eat your young,” and “Francesca.” Every song that Hozier sang caused an eruption of applause from the audience, but the song that made everyone stand up and sing-along was “Too Sweet.” “Too Sweet” was Hozier’s first ever song to hit number one on the top 100 chart, so it was no surprise that it made the entire audience dance along with Hozier’s voice.
Later on, he sang arguably his most well-known song, “Take me to church.” The entire crowd was chanting the lyrics with Hozier, and it was one of the few songs that everyone in the venue knew every lyric to. I enjoyed singing this song the most because hearing the song live allowed me to reminisce on my childhood, as it is a song I’ve known almost my entire life.
After taking a short break, Hozier ended his show with “Work song,” which created many emotions amongst the audience. Hozier’s music has the ability to inflict many emotions and feelings through the messages of his music or the tone in which he sings.
When the night ended, the audience was tired and our voices were almost fully gone, but I’ll forever cherish Hozier’s performance, as his voice is something that I can never forget.
