Our Boys Basketball team has some of the top players in South Florida and can be seen as role models to young players, but they can also teach when it comes to community. As our Varsity Basketball team prepares for a crucial bout against Ponte Verda, in the state championship semi-finals, they took the time out of their rigorous training schedule to support a very special cause.
The Special Olympics state championship was held today, and our Jags made sure to get up bright and early to support the athletes. Cheering and encouraging the athletes as they played, and even coming down onto the court to congratulate the winners, Mount Dora High School. Head Coach, Dave Roca, the rest of the coaching staff, and our Jags ended the occasion talking to the team and taking a group picture with the new state champions.
This was a very wholesome moment, the Jaguars kindness and humility was on full display, and they are truly representing Charter to the best of their ability. Later that night the Jaguars would cruise to victory beating Ponte Verda 64-31, maintaining a comfortable lead throughout the entirety of the game. They will now play Edgewater High School in the state championship final. Let’s see if our role models have what it takes to bring home a state title.
