As the crisp December air settled in, family and friends gathered together on the soccer field Monday night to show their support for the seniors who have almost reached the end of their soccer journey here at Charter. Filled with excitement, joy, and laughter, loved ones celebrated the special accomplishments of our PPCHS soccer players.
The night started off with an intense match between the Lady Jags and St. Thomas Aquinas that ended with a final tie of 1-1. After the goal of the night was scored by senior forward player, Madison Martone, and multiple saves were made by sophomore goalkeeper, Madison Casanova, the team celebrated their great performance with loud cheers. As the final three whistles blew to signal the end of the game, the girls varsity soccer team had successfully completed yet another thrilling match.
Following the first game of the night, parents were called to the track as the senior Lady Jags lined up wearing glittering gold sashes, and holding bouquets of fresh flowers. Shortly after, seniors on the boys team were also called to the field to partake in the ceremony. As each name was announced, a brief description was given of the player’s soccer journey here at Charter, their favorite memories, and their future plans. Friends and family gathered around the players and enveloped them in hugs and cheers to celebrate their many accomplishments.
Senior goalkeeper, Ryan Romero, whole-heartedly expresses, “I felt very honored and supported by my friends, teammates, and family tonight. I’m really grateful for the support that the entire school has given us. I’ve waited 4 years for this day, and it feels great to finally be here.”
Senior defensive midfielder, Tiffany Murillo, also shares similar feelings. “Soccer means a lot to me, especially the teamwork and friends I’ve made over the years, so all of the support I got [on senior night] was really special,” she explains.
The night concluded with a thrilling victory for the boys varsity team after beating Franklin Academy 7-0. Senior striker, Matthew Blackwood, scored two goals, and senior attacking midfielder, Massimo Lopez-Malo, scored from forty yards out with senior striker Carlos Dos Santos making another impressive shot. Additionally, sophomore striker, Gabriel Calderon, scored his first goal of the season, leaving his mark on the field.
The Jaguars have shown incredible teamwork and discipline throughout the year. As the soccer season continues, seniors were able to come together to celebrate their success over the past few years while being showered with love and support. As they walk off the field with family and friends by their side, they take with them the countless victories they share with their teammates.
