As 2023 comes to a conclusion, everyone is on the lookout for the end of the year music wraps, waiting in anticipation. Right when November 29th hit, you could already hear the buzz spreading in and out of the school about Spotify Wrapped finally being released. Conversations in the hallways consist of students and their friends asking each other, “Who is your top artist,” or “What are your top five songs?” Some feel excited about their wraps, which include your five top songs, top artists, and the total minutes you have listened to music this past year, while others have mixed feelings.
“My top five songs were ‘Spin Bout U’ by Drake, ‘Outta Time’ and ‘Still Yours’ by Bryson Tiller, ‘Love Me’ by Lil Wayne, and ‘Too Late’ by SZA. My top artist was Drake with 5,619 minutes listened. My main genre was my favorite of all time, Hip-Hop. I loved how my wrap had Daniel Caesar’s most recent album, Never Enough, as my top one. I think my wrap was very much accurate for this year. I use Apple Music, but, nevertheless, I absolutely love how they do this every year, and it’s really interesting to compare what I used to listen to in the beginning of the year to now and to see how much I’ve changed with my music. I’m very excited to see what my music taste is gonna look like next year.” -Jennah Pierre, Sophomore
“My top genre was indie. I don’t think my wrap was very accurate! My music tastes change a lot throughout the year, and the songs that I listened to in January are different from the ones I liked in December. I really like seeing Spotify Wrapped at the end of the year! I think it’s a really interesting way to see how our music tastes evolved over the course of the year, even if you don’t think that the songs/artists are accurate for you!” – Hannah Flores, Junior
“My top artist was obviously Drake, my top song was ‘Spin Bout U’, and my total minutes were 12,587. My main genre was hip hop, and I think my Wrapped was really accurate.”- Daniel Salman, Sophomore
“My top five songs were ‘Big flirt’ by Lil Hero, ‘Deli’ by Ice Spice, ‘In Ha Mood’ by Ice Spice, ‘Boy’s a liar, Pt.2’ by PinkPantheress & Ice Spice, and “Companion” by Kanii featuring Bossa and I had 25,975 minutes in total. I love Spotify, and if I didn’t have to wait for it, it would not be as fun!”- Olivia Derenoncourt, Freshman
“My top five songs were ‘RISE!’ by Tyler, The Creator featuring DAISY WORLD, “Ivy” by Frank Ocean, ‘Self Control’ by Frank Ocean, ‘Language’ by Paperboy Fabe and Brent Faiyz, and ‘Pink +White’ by Frank Ocean. My main genre was rap and Tyler, The Creator was my top artist. I definitely think it was accurate considering how much music I listen to. I love seeing my wrap at the end of the year because it’s like a little gift that Spotify gives to everyone.”- Madison Jules, Sophomore
“My top artist was definitely Taylor swift, my top song was Maroon, and my total minutes were 40,000.” – Marina Conklin, Junior
“My top five songs were ‘Dance With You Tonight’ by Laufey, ‘Last Christmas’ by Meghan Trainor, ‘Jimmy Cooks’ by Drake (ft. 21 Savage), “Lovers Rock”- TV Girl, and ‘There is a Light That Never Goes Out’ by The Smiths and my top five artist were Laufey, TV Girl, Kanye West, Tyler, The Creator, and The Smiths. I had a total of 45,638 minutes listening to music. I’d like to think my Spotify Wrap was actually pretty accurate. I like how it shows the different varieties of taste I have in music. Of course, I like to see the different artists I listen to, and especially the total minutes I have. Seeing the whole wrap is actually humorous to me as it shows how my music taste progressed throughout the year– like how I was introduced to specific singers and bands in a certain time!” – Faizan Shah, Sophomore
“My top five songs were ‘Stargirl Interlude’ by Lana Del Rey and The Weeknd, ‘Born to Die’ by Lana Del Ray, ‘Salvatore’ by Lana Del Rey, ‘Old Money’ by Lana Del Ray, and ‘Blue Jeans’ by Lana Del Ray. My top artist was, guess who? Lana Del Rey! I am in her top 3% listeners and we spent 1,316 minutes together! My Spotify Wrap isn’t that accurate, sadly, but I like how Spotify does this because it helps people connect to each other more and it’s an easy way for people to talk about music with each other.”- Sjahnaz Buth, Sophomore
“My top five songs were ‘I’ll Kill You’ featuring Jhene Aiko, ‘Ur Best Friend’ by Kiana Lede & Kehlani, ‘Risky,’ “Whoa,’ and ‘Gonna Love Me’ by Teyana Taylor, and my top artists were Kehlani, Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker, RAveena, and H.E.R. My total minutes were 5,026, and I think it was accurate because I started [using Spotify] in like June, but it would have been more accurate if I was listening to it before. I like the end of the year wraps because it shows me the artist and songs I listened to the most.”- Janessa Montilla, Senior
“My top five songs were ‘Shot For Me’ by Drake, ‘Broken Clocks’’ by SZA , ‘Notice Me’ by SZA, ‘All The Stars’ by Kendrick Lamar and SZA, and ‘The Perfect Pair’ by Beabadoobee. My top artists were SZA, Drake, Steve Lacy, Mac DeMarco, and Beabadoobee. My total minutes were 35,589 and I don’t think my Spotify Wrap was accurate because I don’t really listen to Mac DeMArco like that anymore, like I haven’t in a while, but yeah, I love that Spotify does these wraps at the end of the year!- Angelica Diaz, Sophomore
