As the school year progresses, “Summertime Sadness” is an exact feeling many students undergo. With a variety of concerts having taken place recently, the adoration of being at a concert and singing along to songs, instead of being at school, is often missed. However, the unforgettable memories made at concerts will forever be cherished and talked about within the Charter community.
Two weeks ago, Lana Del Rey, well-known for her popular songs and coquette style, had an eccentric, aesthetically pleasing concert. Sophomore Ainsley O’Donovan reflects on her memories of the night, expressing “the concert was amazing. [Lana] had a cool presentation in the background, and seeing her was so cool, I could see her clearly from where I was. Overall, the whole thing was really great.” As Lana played many of her hit songs, sophomore Sienna Corzo also valued the singer’s “beautiful voice, and the band was great as well. A lot of the songs were altered for the live performance which made it even better, so overall it was great.”
Drake’s All A Blur tour has been making its rounds around campus. While many were not able to retrieve tickets, a lucky few did. Senior Dominique Balli, fortunate enough to get one, elatedly recounts, “it was a really good experience, especially since [she] grew up with him. It was great being with my family and friends. The vibes and presentation were good.” Another student, Junior Zahara Durand, enthusiastically shares about her time at the concert. “When I found out I got tickets to Drake, I was so excited! Every song was amazing and I lost my voice that night. He is a really good performer and always knows how to please his fans, and I’ll forever applaud him for that. He gave us an amazing show, and I’ll forever cherish the memory of getting to see my favorite artist live.” There was also a lot of excitement in the air for fans of Drake around campus due to the release of his new album For All the Dogs.
Easily recognized for his guitar and single act, John Mayer has struck the mind of a particular teacher. Mr. Jablonka, a Pines Charter social studies teacher, who many could say plays John Mayer in class a lot, went to one of John Mayer’s concerts and had many thoughts. “The solo tour was unreal. The venue being at Hard Rock Live felt very intimate to the point that it felt like me listening to a student and John Mayer playing the music he loves. He interacted with fans and took song requests from us. It had such a soothing atmosphere because everybody was sitting down, and it wasn’t chaotic. Being with a bunch of other fans that liked him felt right at home. It was a really different experience from all of the other concerts I have experienced, it was unlike any other.”
And a concert that has yet to happen: Bruno Mars. One student is eager for his show and cannot wait to attend. “I want to go to the Bruno Mars concert because I feel like it would be really fun and a good experience and something to not miss,” Freshman Gabrielle Chery anticipates. Though some have yet to buy tickets, they still have the spirit and pride to one day see him, along with countless other artists making their ways to Florida.
