WandaVision and the Future of Marvel

Warning spoilers ahead!

WandaVision‘s final episode has arrived, and there’s a lot to unpack. Wandavision is the first hit tv show to arrive in 2021, and let’s just say it did not disappoint. With WandaVision being the first tv show to hit the Marvel Cinematic Universe there were a lot of high expectations.

As we go about Wanda’s journey through decades of sitcom memory, of her own trauma, and a heartbreaking love story with her partner Vision, it became a hebdomadal event that drew fans in a constant urge to constantly want to know what will happen next.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been developing for a little over a decade, bringing more characters together in each upcoming movie or now tv series. “After a near 8 perfect episodes, WandaVision‘s story has come to a close. There are several fights, many heartfelt goodbyes, and a long-overdue moment of power for Wanda who has been denied a voice in her own fate one too many times” (DOG). She was in need of her own storyline, she had too much that was unknown about her past.

Wandavision’s story is going to set up phase 4 meaning it is divided into a distinct section as it has an overarching storyline. Junior Mia Rossello gives her opinion, “Wandavision was set up perfectly, marvel made the best choice choosing her to start phase 4 of the MCU. She is a huge character who plays a big role in the MCU who needed her own story developed. She had a lot of trauma that needed to be talked about and explained.” She is a character who dealt with so much damage from her past that needed to be displayed; thus, creating her character arc.

Working between family and the future of the people, Westview’s fate is now resting on Wanda’s choices to save them, having her make a life-changing decision (again). In the WandaVision finale we see that Wanda has completed the battle, did she win? You have to watch to find out.

With that, many people have their own opinions, for instance, senior Brenden Richardson states, “The show has done an amazing job in allowing us to see Wanda’s point of view, her grief, and the people around her. It definitely caught my attention, I was so impressed. But that is not just all, it was missing bits of pieces to her puzzled life, there was so much much more to be added.” There is always the good and the bad.

Losing everything time and time again, Wanda is starting to meddle with the universe as she has written her own. “At its heart, WandaVision has been a show that has put a superhero gloss on a very human story of grief, as Wanda deals with losing her life partner Vision by creating a world where they can live together in classic sitcoms—a world, in other words, where all problems can be laughed off and nothing ever changes” (Newsweek). This makes the show even more surprising, grabbing the interest of the audience.

Marvel’s WandaVision finale ended, teasing two upcoming sequels in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both credits tease the two upcoming projects varying from Captain Marvel 2 to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the first end-credits scene Monica meets a Skrull in a movie theater supposedly sent by an old friend of her mom’s. It sounds like Monica’s heading to space to meet with Nick Fury.

In the second, we see Wanda walking into a dark back room where the Scarlet Witch is seen Astral-projecting as she is still conscious reading the Darkhold book Agatha had. Wanda hears the cries of her boys calling for help when she looks up and the scene cuts to black. This can mean the world is in possible danger.

Sophomore Alina Baajour states, “The ending was perfect for setting up the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the possibilities of different projects. For instance, the last post-credit scene teased the upcoming doctor strange movie which I’m really excited about.” With Wandavison coming to an end we will just have to wait and see what surprises Marvel will be giving us next.

Wanda has no idea how she created the strong magical force field surrounding Westview or how to control her powers. Westview just happened out of grief. Since it is said that Wanda is going to be a part of 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” this scene was likely setting up the sequel. Wanda might just break the multiverse and she will need more than just Doctor Strange to help her fix it.
